A Venetian canal in late afternoon light

Travel calendar No. 09

September

The month experienced travellers book first.

In September the summer stays and the crowds go. The water is warm, the evenings are still long enough, and in Italy the landscape becomes work again: harvest, markets, full tables.

It is the month most of our journeys fall into — and the one that fills up earliest.

Why this month

Why this month is special

Venice is at its most robust in September: warm light, water still holding the summer, museums and restaurants working to the rhythm of the city rather than the season.

On the coast, the second and third weeks remain the quietest. After that the evening light shifts and terraces close earlier.

Pure Voyage NoteSeasonal Note

Why is September so dependable?

Because the sea still holds the summer's warmth while the crowds thin out. Italy, Greece and Mallorca are noticeably calmer from the second week and the evenings stay long. It is also the last strong safari window before the rains. Travel in late September and Europe often gives you the best conditions of the year.
