Gartenterrasse in Venedig mit Olivenbäumen und Lagunenlicht am Morgen

Discovery Path — No. 01

First Time Italy

A first journey that does not try to see everything — and stays with you.

Italy cannot be seen in a fortnight. It can be experienced in a fortnight, if you keep to three places and travel slowly between them.

This path begins in Venice, continues through Tuscany and ends by the sea. It follows no list of sights, only the rhythm in which the country is at its most agreeable.

The stages

How this path unfolds

  1. Palazzo am Canal Grande mit Wassertor und privatem Garten im Morgenlicht

    01

    Begin in Venice

Three nights, not two. The first day belongs to arriving, the second to the city away from the main routes, the third to the water. Staying on the Giudecca or the Canal Grande gives you a Venice that only begins in the late afternoon.

  2. Toskanisches Weingut mit Zypressenallee und Steinhäusern im Abendlicht

    02

    Continue into Tuscany

Four or five nights in the countryside, with Florence as a day trip rather than a base. The Val d'Orcia rewards those who set out early and spend the afternoon by the pool.

  3. Terrasse über der Bucht von Portofino mit Pinien und Booten im Wasser

    03

    End by the sea

Three nights in Liguria or on the Amalfi Coast, with nothing further planned. After a fortnight of cities and countryside, the sea is not the finale but the release.

We are glad to adjust this path to your dates and your pace.
