Visitor numbers per landing site are tightly regulated, which makes vessel size decisive. On a small yacht you land first, walk in small groups and can follow routes closed to larger ships.
The animals keep no flight distance: sea lions asleep beside you, blue-footed boobies on the path, marine iguanas you step over. It is less observation than presence.
The western islands, Isabela and Fernandina, are the most rewarding and the hardest to reach — one more argument for a vessel that can move freely.

Why we recommend it
Because the Galápagos lose their effect the moment you share them with crowds. A small ship here is not comfort but the condition under which the journey delivers what it promises.

- Year-round. December to May: warmer water, calm seas. June to November: cooler and windier, but the most active season for marine life.
- Suggested duration
- Seven nights aboard, plus two in Quito and, if possible, three in the highlands.
- Who it is best for
- Families with children from eight, nature photographers, travellers with time for Ecuador. Less suitable for severe seasickness — night passages move.

Take the western itinerary, not the eastern. It demands more of the crew but delivers Isabela and Fernandina — where most of it happens.
