A Mediterranean coast in spring with pines above the water

Travel calendar No. 04

April

Southern Europe, before it is discovered.

In April the Mediterranean is green. The landscape is just short of its peak, the temperatures allow long walks, and the houses have only recently opened — with full attention and few guests.

It is the month for travellers who want less swimming and more looking: Tuscany on foot, northern Mallorca without traffic, the Amalfi Coast with lemons rather than crowds.

Why this month

Why this month is special

After winter a house needs two weeks to find its form — after that, April is the kindest time of year to stay in one. You are offered rooms that have been taken since winter for July.

Easter is the exception. For ten days around it, Italy behaves as it does in high summer; if you can, travel before or after.

Pure Voyage NoteSeasonal Note

Where is April rewarding?

Japan, Tuscany and the Greek islands before the season. Days are long enough, temperatures comfortable, and houses have just reopened — service and attention are noticeably better than in high summer. The Indian Ocean sits in one of its calmest phases. Easter is the exception: plan it early.
