Raja Mendaka stands above the beach, built into the slope, with a pool at the edge and an open living level of teak under alang-alang thatch. Getting to Sumba takes time; the house justifies it.
There are no doors in the usual sense. The wind passes through, the sea is always audible, and the evenings stay warm.
