From the Suite Collection — Suite No. 07
Authors' Suite
Mandarin Oriental Bangkok — Chao-Phraya-Fluss, Bangkok
The older wing on the river, with teak, fans and a great deal of quiet.
The Authors' Suites sit in the Authors' Wing, the oldest part of the house. High rooms, dark wood, white shutters, a salon that opens towards the Chao Phraya.
The contrast with Bangkok is intentional: the speed of the city outside, a pace from another era within.
Why we recommend this suite
The wing is not the newest part of the house, which is exactly what makes it the most interesting. It speaks of the years when Bangkok was reached by river.
Breakfast on the terrace by the water is one of those moments you get up early for without meaning to.
Who it suits
- Travellers who value historic houses and see Bangkok as the opening of a longer Asian journey.
- Couples who want to combine city and river, with boats and temples close by.
- Less suited to guests who prefer contemporary room architecture.
What makes it special
The river
The hotel's boat takes you to the far bank and into the old town.
The library
The Authors' Wing keeps its history present without putting it on display.
The terrace
In the morning the best place in the house, before the heat rises.
Which kind of trip suits this room?
Two or three nights at the start of a longer Asian journey. The suites in the historic wing sit away from the traffic of the hotel, are generously laid out and make arrival after a night flight easy. For a single night before an early flight, a river category in the main building is the better choice.
