No. 01 — Val d'Orcia, Italy
Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco
A working estate of five thousand acres with an eleventh-century borgo at its centre, still arranged as a village rather than a hotel. The Brunello vines are farmed seriously, the frescoed chapel is being restored by hand, and the valley below has not been permitted to change since the fifteenth century.
