The Chapter

In the desert, architecture has nowhere to hide.

Nothing exposes a building like a desert. There is no foliage to soften it, no weather to obscure it, no neighbouring facade to compete with. What remains is mass, shadow and the discipline of the person who drew it.

The houses in this chapter answer the landscape rather than decorate it: concrete the colour of the rock it stands on, water used sparingly and beautifully, rooms oriented around a single view because a single view is enough.

Come for the silence. Stay for the night sky, which is the actual reason.
